Here We Go Again!

Hi Again!
Anyone still here?
I know..... I didn't ever want to come back either.

Well, I made it 3 whole years cancer-free. I had finally stopped thinking about it coming back and that's when it did. Cancer is sneaky like that.

Rewind to December. I had a nasty upper respiratory infection / possible Pneumonia that I never got checked because my entire family was sick and mom's go to the doctor last.

While in Sioux Falls over Christmas, I experienced a ton of chest pain and I thought I had possibly broken some ribs from coughing. We visited acute care on 12/26 and after a chest scan, I was told my lungs were clear and it was just Costochronditis.

I made it a few more weeks before it hurt to sneeze, cough, bend down, sleep and sometimes breathe. I visited my chiropractor numerous times, but the pain always came right back.

My gut told me it was probably more serious than Costo, so I called my oncologist to request a PET scan. I hadn't had one since I received the all-clear 3 years ago and I didn't really expect the grim news I received.

I had my scan on Monday morning and received a call that evening from my oncologist that my cancer had returned in multiple places throughout my bones and liver. I was scheduled for a liver biopsy, which took place this morning.

Once the results are in, we will know what treatment options are available and where to start. I have numerous appointments next week with oncologists all over Minnesota and I am seriously considering seeking treatment at MD Anderson in Houston if I qualify for a trial.

Never a dull moment.

The second we announced the cancer returned, we began receiving an outpouring of love and prayers from everyone around us. We needed that. We are at peace with what we will hear next week, although we are disappointed that I am now Stage IV, and therefore, no longer curable.

God still has a plan for me.

Liver in a cup--yum!

  13. Transitioning from curative to management doesn't mean there is not hope for the future. Attitude is 80% and you have that in spades! I pray that the team of doctors surrounding you find that perfect treatment to keep the cancer at bay and pray that the friends and family surrounding you will lift you when you are down. Thank you for sharing journey with us

  16. You're such a strong lady!
Remember that night in St. Pete, FL when you took me by the hand and went to the bar and you made me feel like a rock star!
That's how you make people feel everywhere you go. (Maybe it was the alcohol, but I'm calling it your sparkle...) haha. You got this girl! My sister was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer and her odds were way down. Thankfully she beat it and she's the grumpy pants on the family.... not a soul full of sunshine LOL ....So I KNOW you've got this!!!

  25. I was diagnosed stage IV 2 1/2 years ago. Yes it is not curable but, you can be in remission forever. Which is what I'm hoping for. As you know cancer is a long road that none of us want to travel. But, we come out stronger!!!! You will be a survivor once again. Praying for you.

  26. I am sorry to read about your diagnosis, but happy to see your positive attitude. I had cancer return (lymphoma after leukemia) in Nov. 2014, but mine was much more minor than yours, one tumor that had not spread. I'll join your friends and family in praying for you. Much grace to you.

  28. I have a friend with a similar situation. She told me that NO ONE knows when we will die, only God. Someone with a complete great bill of health can get hit by a car. She chooses to see cancer as a thing she had to go through like others battles and it makes her stronger. She lives with boldness and every day to its fullest. And yes like you she has little kids. Yes cancer fnsucks! Hugs to you and prayers. God's strength to you!
